Build

You know, I still have so much to learn about you. And I know there are still so many surprises in store for me. And I can't wait for them, I can't wait for you to astonish me with some new and completely unexpected way that you're incredible. Yet another brick that clicks so very firmly into place in my heart. Just solidifying the notion that there is truly no one else on this pale blue dot that I'd rather spend my time with.

But, perhaps one of the most surprising things to me is how often I've been unsurprised lately. As if… even though we still only spend the tiniest bit of time together, I've come to know you far better than I realize. As if… down in my heart, I know, I've already known you…

That was how I felt the other night when you were giving us the tour, and I saw it. Proudly displayed on your mantle. Did I catch you catching me eyeing it? I didn't have to ask to know whose it was. I knew. I knew the instant I laid eyes on it. The subject matter - you. The medium - you. Its very presence there screaming “you” to me.

(I had the exact same reaction when you told us the name of the color you chose for the walls, by the way…)

When I finally managed to slip it into the conversation, I knew who would claim it.

So, no. I wasn't surprised by you. But I did get a surprise, when you confirmed it… as images of you putting it together flooded my mind… those beautiful, elegant fingers snapping the pieces together. The look I imagine was on your face as you searched through for the correct pieces (or… are you a pre-sorter? ooooh, another detail to be learned!).

I suspect you don't take the hobby as far as I do, but still… Another fantasy came to mind…

A lazy Sunday afternoon, during the dead of winter… Too cold and gross to be outside.

Something goofy on the TV, not requiring a lot of attention… Or perhaps your favorite playlist playing on Pandora…

And you. And me. Building a set together, piece by piece.

Slowly at first… but accelerating, as we get into the swing of things. Just like how we've gradually built our relationship.

I dunno about you, but I'm thinking that Rivendell set would look awfully nice on display.
